Gujarat gets 102% of its annual average rainfall

GANDHINAGER, WNS; Heavy rains in Gujarat on Sunday has helped the state with its annual average rainfall. Now Gujarat has received 102% of its annual average rainfall of 831mm. 


The state has so far this monsoon received 853mm of rainfall. Not just the state, Kutch and Saurashtra that is being battered by heavy rains this monsoon has also recovered over 100%of their annual average rainfall. Kutch has so far received almost close to 200% (188%) of its annual average rainfall while Saurashtra has got 134%. In Kutch, the highest rainfall was recorded from Mandvi that has so far got 302% of its annual average rainfall.

Heavy rains on Sunday, particularly in North Gujarat, left many regions flooded. In Mehsana, Kadi taluka received 12 inches of rainfall leading to waterlogging in several areas. Bhahucharaji received 9 inches, Mehsana 7 inches and Vijapur 4 inches during the same period.

Heavy rainfall was also recorded from Patan and Harij that received 7 inches and Siddhpur 6 inches. Chanasma received five inches of rainfall too while Banskantha had 5.5 inches.

Heavy rains in the state

The maximum rainfall in the last 24 hours was recorded from Jodia taluka in Jamnagar that got 338 mm (13 inches) of rainfall. Of the total rainfall received by the state so far, the maximum of 502 mm was received in August while June and July accounted for 122mm and 228 mm of rainfall. 

139 talukas received between 501 to 1,000 mm of rainfall this season while 251 talukas in 33 districts received rain in the last 24 hours. Of the total districts, 15 have received more than 100% of its annual average rainfall so far.

Rain in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad district has recorded 79% of its total annual average rain of 699 mm. Ahmedabad city has got 90% of its seasonal rainfall so far. Heavy rains continued to batter the city since Monday morning with several areas reporting flooding. Dholka accounts for the highest rainfall in the district with 93% of its total seasonal rain.
