The Webinar was organized by FICCI-Arise and was one in the series of webinars on remote schooling titled ‘Teaching for the New Normal’. The other speakers of the webinar included Mr Manish Jain, Chairman, FICCI Arise and Co-Founder and Director, The Heritage Group of Schools; Mr Parmod Kumar, Department of School Education, Govt. of Haryana; Ms Abril Dulude Matos, Head of Design, Newton College, Lima, Peru and Ms Chitra Balaji, Math Faculty, Delhi Public School, Nashik; Ms Pallavi Dwivedi, Founder, Highr, moderated the online event.
In her address, Kanika said that in CMS we had become prepared much before the lockdown. She further said that our role as educators is not limited to just delivering lectures but we also try to ensure that the learning outcomes have been achieved. The assessments, therefore, are given as much importance as the lectures. Summative assessments like projects, essays, tests, presentations and Flip teaching which help students in understanding topics more thoroughly and teachers in identifying possible teaching gaps are used, thereby contributing positively to learning outcomes. She elaborated upon the four collaborators CMS is working with — Google Forms, Edupuzzle, Khan Academy and Light Sail.
Mr. Manish Jain expressed his gratitude to the teachers who were the real heroes of today. He admired their spirit of learning and teaching using new methods.
Mr. Parmod Kumar highlighted various tools like Flip Grid where students can interact with teachers on video and Kahoot in which there are quizzes for students.
Ms. Chitra Balaji stressed that the questions in online teaching should be open-ended, so that one question leads to another and that is how students move forward solving one and then moving on to the next. Online quizzes and analysis of learning are very important for assessment, she opined.
Other speakers of the event also stressed on the importance of effective remote schooling.
